The Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) is a list of the medical services for which the Australian Government will pay a Medicare rebate to Medicare card holders, to provide patients with financial assistance towards the costs of their medical bills. Medicare rebates do not, and were never intended to, cover the full cost of medical services. The Medicare Schedule Fee has been set by the Government to determine the amount of rebate that patients receive.

Medicare offer a rebate for most of our services, provided you have a current referral.

From July 1st 2016, Medicare rebate cheques have stopped. This means you will need to register your bank account details with Medicare so the rebate can be paid directly into your bank account via EFT.

For more information, or to register your bank account details, visit www.humanservices.gov.au or call 132 011.

Private health insurance is generally divided into hospital cover and extras cover. All private health insurance only covers for inpatient specialist care, meaning, if you are an outpatient and are not admitted to hospital, your private health insurance will not cover any of your costs related to specialist medical practitioner services.

Patients need to be aware of what they are covered for and what is excluded from their health care policy. The list of exclusions keeps changing, so you must keep up-to-date with changes, remain informed and ask the correct questions of your fund.

To assist patients in understanding private health insurance and the effects of recent changes, AMA Queensland has collated several resources. For more information visit www.ama.com.au.

If you are not sure if your private health insurance does cover your procedure with SABE GastroS , please contact our friendly reception staff at 07 3107 4816 and we will assist you.
